In Game of Thrones show, Joffrey was poisoned to death. His uncle Tyrion is accused of the murder. It was later revealed in S07E03 that it was Olenna Tyrell's plan with Littlefinger to get rid of Joffrey. I received a comment from a user under my question on Movies & TV. Olenna, the Tyrell matriarch, poisoned Joffrey's wine with a stone hidden in a necklace, and arranged for Sansa to deliver it to him. She did this to protect Margaery from his cruelty and to end his tyrannical reign. Jaime Lannister discovered the truth and was furious with his sister-lover, who died in his arms.
